Grooming Kittens and Senior Cats: A Gentler Cat Grooming Guide
When to start grooming a kitten, gentler routines for senior cats, what to mention when booking, and when to ask your vet before a groom.

Kittens and senior cats sit at opposite ends of life, but they have something in common when it comes to cat grooming: both do better with a slower, gentler approach. A kitten is still learning what handling feels like, and an older cat may have less patience or less comfort than before. This guide covers when to start, how to keep routines gentle, what to tell us when you book, and when to ask your vet first.
Grooming Kittens
The early months are a good time to help a kitten get used to being handled. A kitten that is comfortable having its paws, ears and coat touched at home usually finds grooming visits easier later on.
When to start
You can start gentle handling at home as soon as your kitten has settled in. Before the first salon visit, ask your vet whether your kitten is ready, especially around its vaccination schedule. Your vet knows your kitten's health and is the right person to make that call.
Handling practice at home
- Touch and hold each paw for a moment, then let go and offer a treat
- Look inside the ears and gently stroke around them
- Brush for a minute or two with a soft brush
- Let your kitten explore the carrier with the door open
Keep each session short and end before your kitten gets restless. A little practice often is more useful than a long session now and then.

A simple first visit
For a kitten's first visit, a short, simple appointment is often enough. The Basic Grooming Package, from RM10 per cat, covers a nail trim, ear cleaning and paw cleaning without a bath. If your kitten's coat needs a wash, the Regular Grooming Package from RM40 adds a full shower. You can compare all options in our grooming packages.
Grooming Senior Cats
As cats get older, many groom themselves less thoroughly. Some owners notice a greasy patch along the back, tangles on the hindquarters or longer claws than usual. A little extra help at home and at the salon can keep an older cat clean and comfortable.
Signs your older cat needs more help
- Fur along the back or near the tail looks greasy or clumped
- Tangles appear in places your cat used to keep tidy
- Claws grow long or catch on carpets and furniture
- Your cat seems less keen to stretch or twist to clean itself
Gentler routines for older cats
Brush in short sessions with a soft brush, and support your cat's body rather than lifting its legs high. Choose a warm, quiet spot and a soft surface. Let your cat take breaks, and stop if it shows signs of discomfort.
Choosing a package
Many senior cats do well with regular nail, ear and paw care from the Basic Grooming Package. If the coat has become greasy or tangled, the Regular Grooming Package or the Fur Trimming Package, from RM50 per cat with an overall body trim or a simple body trim, may help. We will talk it through with you on WhatsApp.

What to Mention When Booking
For both kittens and senior cats, the more we know before the visit, the better we can plan. Send us a short message on WhatsApp with these details.
For kittens
- Your kitten's age and whether this is its first groom
- Whether your vet has said it is ready for grooming
- How it reacts to handling, brushing and the carrier
For senior cats
- Your cat's age and any conditions your vet is managing
- Any stiffness or areas your cat does not like touched
- Any medication, and how your cat has coped with past grooms
Price and booking
All prices are starting prices per cat, confirmed on WhatsApp once we know your cat's coat, size and temperament. A deposit confirms the slot, and the address of our one salon is shared when you book. We do not offer pick-up or home grooming. Owners travel in from nearby areas, including cat owners from Petaling Jaya, cat owners from Shah Alam and cat owners from Subang Jaya.
When to Ask Your Vet First
A groomer is not a vet. Please check with your vet before booking if your cat has any of the following.
- A skin problem, wound, lump or sore area
- Signs of fleas, ticks or other parasites
- A heart, breathing or joint condition, or recent surgery
- Questions about sedation for grooming
Your vet can tell you whether a groom is suitable right now and what to avoid. Share their advice with us when you book.
Tell us your cat's age and needs, and we will suggest a gentle package.
Book Grooming SlotSummary
Kittens and senior cats both benefit from shorter, gentler grooming. Start handling practice early with kittens and ask your vet when they are ready for a salon visit. Help older cats with soft brushing and regular nail, ear and paw care. Tell us your cat's age and needs when you book, and check with your vet first about any health concerns.
